I am an aging hippie and agree Patrick.
I attended a rally in 1968 for George Wallace (I was there as part of a high school project.) Some of the protesters in the crowd began to heckle Wallace using colorful language. He said, "These hippies know all the four letter words, except bath and work!" Times haven't changed much, have they?

I really love this saying. It is true for obvious reasons. You can not bomb and accept there to be no war, no conflict. Unfortunately there are liars and decievers in powerful positions. Until this day there is rasicm, discrimination, and hatred, to all sorts of people. Being a hippie is a belief, a choice. Telling a hippie to cut their hair is like telling a Christian to take off their cross neclace. That is wrong. Why should we follow you, if you are a terrible example of peace.

Wow... I also love this picture, and find it really sad how you guys just used the stereotypical version of a hippie. I would've hoped that by now, we might have matured a little more than to downgrade someone. Mr./Ms. Anonymous, I agree with your first part, but not the last part of you comment. Your metaphor doesn't quite hit the spot. Being a hippie is a choice, yes, but you don't have to have long hair to be a hippie.

I agree with Paul that you don't have to have long hair to be a hippie. I never did and consider myself to have been and to a great extent, still am a hippie. Hippies believe in Love, Peace and Brotherhood. We believe in the "Golden Rule." "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." We help our neighbor without expecting anything in return. When someone is down and out, we help them to get back on their feet. This doesn't mean giving them charity, but teaching the skills they need to survive and prosper. Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he will eat the rest of his life.
We believed in "Pay it forward" way before it became popular.
We believe in listening to our fellow man with understanding and compassion. We are not arrogant or boastful. We understand that we are all equal in the eyes of the creator, regardless of your name for him. We believe we should use the earth wisely and not waste her precious resources.
I think I'm starting to ramble, so I'll shut up, but you get the idea.

I love this picture and what is being said in it. I am also a hippie, but does that mean that I do not bathe or work...Hell No! Infact, I take 2-3 showers a day and I work within a major Jewelry Corporation. Being a hippie has to do with loving one another and getting along. Loving the Earth and taking care of it so that the children of the future have a decent place to live. We teach our children not to fight, but yet there is always a war that they are hearing about? The messege that I obtained from this is simple..bomb someone else and you will get bombed back, sleep with someone and that is a virgin and you take away their innocence.And, not all hippies have long hair. I'm a lady and I actually choose to leave my hair short because it is too curly and heavy to be long, but should that matter, no.
