Gaochang Ruins :: Turpan, Xinjiang: Gaochang, Xinjiang, People's Republic of China : Ruins and Restorations.
Those are The Flaming Mountains off in the distance. As for Gaochang, this was the Uighur capital when they moved here from Mongolia in the 9th Century. Founded in the 7th Century by the Tang Dynasty when it became a major stop on the Silk Road.
