Get your kicks on Route 66

A unique opportunity to discover the American Dream,
past and present, via one of history's great roadways.

I'm a writer/photographer/videographer documenting The Main Street of America, the mother road, US ROUTE 66, and need the help of a navigator/participant/assistant: someone cerebral and handy with a camera; someone interested in traversing Chicago to Los Angeles for 6 weeks at a thoroughly investigative pace in countryside where art Deco diners and roadside kitsch continue to keep the Wal-Marts and McDonald's at bay.

WHAT I'M BRINGING:
My truck and a 35' trailer with all the trimmings: full kitchen, hot shower, air-conditioned, privacy enough for two. Lots of AAA maps and a couple ROUTE 66 guides.
WHAT YOU MUST PAY FOR:
1/4 of the gas..or..$250, whichever is less. 1/2 camping charges (cheaper than hostels: typically, your cost will be $5 to $12 per night) your share of food (we'll raid the fridge frequently, but much ROUTE 66 magic is to be found in its diners and other eateries, and they're also the best sources of information.)
WHAT YOU NEED TO BRING:
Light traveling gear: a few changes of clothes, toiletries...a sense of adventure and inquisitiveness. Also, there's room for another bicycle on my roof-rack.

DEPARTURE: August 31.
DURATION: Arriving Los Angeles mid-October.

Phone: 1 (800) XXX-XXXX
leave a message specifying a time and phone # where you can be reached, or define a time and location convenient to transit in downtown Chicago where we can meet in person the following day.

It was my dream that screwed up, the stupid hearthside idea that it would be wonderful to follow one great red line across America instead of trying various roads and routes.
